With more than a million players playing badminton every month in England, badminton is the nation’s most played racket sport and the sixth biggest sport overall in this country. Quite simply, we want to inspire everyone to play more, support the sport and love, live and breathe badminton.
Our home is the National Badminton Centre (NBC) in Milton Keynes, and, through our staff team, we are making this a great place to work, rest and play. An accredited Elite Training Centre, the NBC is the home of badminton in England and is set for a modern new look…..where the best talent is nurtured, and elite athletes are developed to compete and represent England and Great Britain on the world stage. And yet it is so much more. Of course we host world-class badminton courts open to clubs, coaches and the wider badminton community. However, we are also home to public and professional gym facilities, fitness suites and a spin studio, meeting rooms, a popular three-star 25-room hotel, a sports bar, a small restaurant and we even host the National Badminton Museum - all open to the public.’ We are also very proud to host our flourishing para-badminton programme in Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport. Role Summary
We are looking for someone to join our team in this new role to assist with driving cultural change around safeguarding and welfare provision across badminton in England through:
- Embedding safeguarding best practice through our affiliated environments, you will be supporting our commitment and expectation to be A Sport that Cares.
- Delivering high quality training programmes throughout our badminton community to share resources and create networks to ensure our sport is a safe and provides positive experiences for all participants, across all ages and levels.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, engaging and informative safeguarding training sessions, both face-to-face and online, which could be daytime, evenings and weekends, to Club Welfare Officers, a range of roles across the badminton community and teams within Badminton England.
- Facilitate interactive discussion, activities and case studies to promote understanding and knowledge retention.
- Develop relationships with a network of Club Welfare Officers, ensuring that there is consistency in practice, providing access to appropriate support and resources.
- Review and assess the effectiveness of training sessions through feedback and follow-up evaluations.
- Update training content, guidance documents and resources, engaging with experts in safe sport, to ensure that we are provide the most up to date content, training opportunities and approaches to learning.
- Support compliance with the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) and Ann Craft Trust (ACT) Safeguarding Frameworks.
- Complete the required administrative tasks including the promotion of workshops, arranging and preparing training sessions, disseminating instructional notes, collating feedback and maintaining accurate records.
- Act as a point of contact for participants and respond to any enquiries on safeguarding training
Who are we looking for?
Are you passionate about Badminton England’s commitment and expectations in relation to being A Sport that Cares?
- Proven experience of delivering safeguarding training, preferably in both areas of safeguarding children and safeguarding adults.
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation, guidance and best practice in safeguarding in the sport sector.
- Ability to provide accessible training, tailored to the needs of the participants.
- Track record of sharing best practice through training and resource development.
- Creativity and a proven ability to challenge traditional methods of working and overcome resistance to change.
- An understanding of the links between safeguarding and equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with an ability to engage diverse audiences and create positive learning environments.
- Competence in using IT for training delivery.
- A proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, with an understanding of the sports environment and the needs of volunteers as this role will include evenings and weekend working.
- Values orientation with alignment to Badminton England values.
- An ability to travel with a full drivers licence.
