Develop Committee Member – Volunteer Role

We are seeking two thoughtful, committed and collaborative individuals to join our Develop Committee.

These voluntary appointments offer an opportunity to help shape the future of badminton in England by bringing fresh insight to strategic discussions about the development, growth and accessibility of our sport. The Committee oversees delivery of the Develop, Thrive and Places pillars of the Badminton England strategy, helping to set priorities, review progress and provide advice and recommendations to the Board.

About the Opportunities

We are particularly interested in applications for the following perspectives:

Young People's Member / Youth Champion

Someone able to bring an informed young person's perspective, including current or recent understanding of junior badminton and the transition into adult participation. [Develop Co...tment

Wider Sporting Landscape Member

Someone who can bring insight from across the wider sport and physical activity sector, with experience of partnership working and the ability to provide constructive strategic challenge.

What You'll Do

Committee members are expected to:

• Contribute to strategic discussions and collective decision-making.

• Review papers in advance and ask constructive, evidence-informed questions.

• Oversee progress against agreed priorities and measures.

• Provide advice, insight and recommendations within the Committee's remit.

• Champion safe, inclusive and accessible sport development.

• Act with integrity, respect confidentiality and declare any conflicts of interest.

Contribute between meetings where appropriate, including task-and-finish activity or stakeholder engagement.

About You

We are looking for people who can bring insight, curiosity and a collaborative approach.

You will ideally have:

• A passion for sport, participation and development.

• The ability to contribute ideas, ask questions and offer constructive challenge.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• Sound judgement and strategic thinking.

• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

• High standards of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.

For the Young People's Member role, current or recent experience of junior badminton, young adult participation or supporting young people would be beneficial. For the Wider Sporting Landscape role, experience of partnerships, community sport or the wider sport sector would be particularly valuable.

Time Commitment

This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed in line with Badminton England policy.

• Three-year appointment, with eligibility for reappointment.

• A minimum of four committee meetings per year.

• Preparation for meetings and proportionate contribution between meetings.

• Meetings may be held in person or online.
