With more than a million players playing badminton every month in England, badminton is the nation’s most played racket sport and the sixth biggest sport overall in this country. Quite simply, we want to inspire everyone to play more, support the sport and love, live and breathe badminton.
Our home is the National Badminton Centre (NBC) in Milton Keynes and, through our staff team, we are making this a great place to work, rest and play. An accredited Elite Training Centre, the NBC is the home of badminton in England and is set for a modern new look…..where the best talent is nurtured and elite athletes are developed to compete and represent England and Great Britain on the world stage. And yet it is so much more. Of course we host world-class badminton courts open to clubs, coaches and the wider badminton community. However, we are also home to public and professional gym facilities, fitness suites and a spin studio, meeting rooms, a popular three-star 25-room hotel, a sports bar, a small restaurant and we even host the National Badminton Museum - all open to the public.’ We are also very proud to host our flourishing para-badminton programme in Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport. A dedicated team work tirelessly from our second home in South Yorkshire to ensure elite badminton remains a sport for everyone.

Role summary:
Protecting and opening places to play is a fundamental pillar of our strategy. We are seeking a talented individual to drive the Places pillar of our strategy, ensuring that current places to play are protected and that more facilities are made available to enable the growth of badminton.
You will attract investment; influence strategically; support local organisations; develop and grow our lettings model; and develop new and innovative methods of protecting and opening places to play.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a plan to protect and open-up places to play.
- Develop innovative solutions to enable the opening up of more places to play including the expansion of the Badminton England facility lettings model and the utilisation of non-traditional environments for badminton.
- Explore and implement opportunities to attract significant investment into the future development of badminton facilities.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of places related needs specific to badminton and utilise this to support the badminton community / leisure sector.
- Lead the development of insight-led reports that create a compelling rationale for future investment in badminton facilities.
- Develop resources, guidance and programmes to support the badminton community to protect and open-up places to play, ensuring we have accurate and up-to-date data to inform policy decisions at funder / local / national government level.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key providers to identify opportunities to grow access to facilities, e.g., leisure operators, school lettings companies.
- Build a positive relationship with Sport England and other partners as relevant to support the growth of appropriate places to play and identify opportunities for investment and support.
- Support other teams in Badminton England to maximise use of facilities, e.g., the Competition, Coaching and Performance teams.
- Oversee Badminton England’s input to built facilities strategy development and planning applications.
Who we are looking for?

You will have:
- Experience of developing solutions to protect and open-up places to play.
- A track record of delivering impact.
- Knowledge/understanding of the sporting landscape, in particular around facilities.
- A track record of building customer understanding and using that knowledge and understanding to inform activities.
- Experience of attracting significant funding and ideally knowledge of facilities funding/investment models.
- A good understanding of technical facilities matters (desirable).
- Willingness to seek out new and innovative approaches to work.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop positive internal and external relationships at all levels.
- Ability to lead and influence funders, partners and stakeholders to deliver strategic goals and agreed targets.
- Excellent project management skills.
- The ability to make decisions based on data, insight and evidence.
- A commitment to sports equality and an ability to gain buy-in to inclusion objectives.
- A strong customer service orientation.
- An ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload.

Key Information:
We're all about output so we have Hybrid working and flexible hours in place - it's a full-time role (35.58 hours per week), but we understand that people have lives outside of BE - please talk to us about what you need. We can't promise anything, but we're open to a discussion about how we can support you.
This role can be performed remotely, but there will be regular travel. You will need to be able to travel into Milton Keynes at least 4 times a year plus additional days as required.
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
