Coach Development Manager

Role summary:
The Coach Development Manager is responsible for supporting the delivery, implementation, and continuous improvement of Badminton England’s Coaching Strategy. The role plays a critical part in ensuring that badminton in England is supported by an inclusive, high quality, and expanding coaching workforce—from grassroots through to the performance environment.
Working within the Sport Directorate but with a cross organisational remit, this role will oversee the development, delivery and review of key coach development programmes within Badminton England’s Coaching Plan, which have a key focus on growing the coaching workforce, increasing the number of full-time coaches, raising coaching standards and raising the value and recognition coaches feel within the sport.
Key responsibilities:
Support the delivery of Badminton England’s Coaching Strategy, ensuring alignment with A Sport for Everyone.
Lead the development and delivery of coach education and development programmes, ensuring high-quality development opportunities for coaches at all levels.
Develop coaching resources, supporting coaches to deliver fun, engaging and progressive sessions at all stages of the player pathway.
Design and build e-learning content, that is engaging, learning outcomes driven and supports blended learning opportunities for coaches.
Project manage the implementation of a Coach Apprenticeship scheme, supporting clubs to grow their coaching workforce whilst providing full-time coaching roles for learners.
Support the design and implementation of localised coaching networks, driving coach development at a localised level through great learning opportunities, networking and mentoring.
Lead the delivery of coach development events, such as workshops, webinars, conferences and mentoring opportunities.
Embed world-class coaching standards, supporting the recruitment, training, and continuous improvement of volunteer and professional coaches across both community and performance pathways.
Collaborate across the organisation, ensuring coaching is integrated with talent, performance, clubs, competitions, and workforce initiatives.
Use data and insight to inform decision-making, track workforce needs, and report progress against strategic objectives.
Provide excellence customer service, supporting coaches with enquiries linked to their learning and development
Successful Candidate:
Essential:
Proven experience in coach development within a national governing body, sport system, or comparable environment.
Good understanding of coaching workforce pathways, coach education, and coach accreditation models.
Experience of being a coach and the ability to empathise with the workforce and the challenges they face.
Experience of leading/ managing the development of coach education programmes, resources or learning opportunities.
Evidence of enhancing coach quality and increasing coaching capacity in a sport or physical activity setting.
Ability to design, evaluate, and improve workforce development programmes.
Good understanding of adult learning principles.
Knowledge of welfare and safeguarding requirements related to coaching.
Strong badminton technical knowledge and/or the proven ability to work with technical experts from within a sport to ensure appropriate information is incorporated across a coach development programme.
Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams and external partners.
Comfortable using data, insight, and evaluation to drive improvement.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Desirable
Experience working as a coach educator or developer.
Experience of instructional design, using software packages such as Articulate 360.

Salary: £33,000 - £37,000
